A good reminder to be careful not to overdo it with water when you're using a humidity dome. I checked on my light setup this afternoon and discovered fuzzy plant markers! Thankfully, there aren't many seedlings up yet, so I removed the markers and left the dome off to dry everything out. On the plus… Continue reading Fuzzy Plant Markers

Spring Flowers
I picked up some cut flowers today to help tide me over until we've got some of our own! We've still got about a foot of snow here, and I was craving some spring blooms. Tulips always feel like the thing to get in the spring, but I doubt they'd survive if I planted some--deer… Continue reading Spring Flowers
Planting My First Snapdragons
I've seen so many beautiful snapdragon photos on Instagram that I couldn't resist joining in! The only flower seeds I've tried starting before are sunflowers, so I'm looking forward to having a more interesting variety of flowers in the garden this year. These were planted on the weekend, and now I'm waiting impatiently for the… Continue reading Planting My First Snapdragons
Greenhouse Shopping Trip
Picked up a few things from @sagegardenherbs this weekend -- I swear walking into a greenhouse is nearly as bad as walking into a bookstore 🤦♀️ I was excited to set up my new @sunblasterlighting stand and second light though! The stack of books wasn't really cutting it anymore, especially with my lettuce growing so vigorously. Now just to… Continue reading Greenhouse Shopping Trip
Funny-looking birds
Some funny-looking birds at the feeder last week... 😂
Getting Better at Starting Seeds
Check out my slightly creative light setup in the right photo because I don't have a stand 🙃 It's interesting to note that the plants on the left are much taller -- the only difference is that the dome was half sitting on the ones on the right for an extra few days while I… Continue reading Getting Better at Starting Seeds
All of my onions are up!
All twelve of my onions are up! The seed packet said germination could take up to 14 days, so my heat mat really sped things up. I love seeing new seedlings make their way out of the soil (and checking on them 200 times a day 😂). Next up: figuring out how to cold stratify… Continue reading All of my onions are up!
Blue Jays!
We had a few visitors at the bird feeder this morning, including three Blue Jays! They don't sit still long, so I had to snap this very quickly before it flew off again (which is why it's a touch blurry). Have you had Blue Jays at your feeder?
How to Convert Seed Packet Instructions for Square Foot Gardening
This week, I've been thinking a lot about how many seeds I should be planting when I’m starting seeds indoors. I planted some Cortland Onions over the weekend, but I’m not sure if I planted the right number of seeds. At the time, I decided to just guess, because a) I was excited to get… Continue reading How to Convert Seed Packet Instructions for Square Foot Gardening
And the first seeds are in the soil!
And the first seeds are in soil! I started with these Cortland Onions from High Mowing today. When I originally purchased these, I thought I was ordering sets (and clearly didn't read the website carefully 🤦♀️), so I'll be interested to see how the seeds do instead! Have you planted anything yet?
