Garden Updates, Recipes to Try

A Radish Harvest and a Recipe to Try

For my first harvest from the garden, I got to try these radishes this week.

They grew quite a bit bigger than I was intending, as they really weren’t ready the last time I checked them — apparently they grow faster than I thought!

These were supposed to be a sweeter variety, but they definitely still have a spicy bite to them. I also tried sautéing the radish greens, as I hear they’re edible, and they were actually pretty good!

I found a recipe from Fork in the Road that suggested sautéing them in oil with sliced garlic, chili flakes, and salt and pepper. I way overdid the garlic, so I didn’t really taste the flavour of the greens themselves, but I really liked their texture–they wilted, much like spinach would, but they kept a chewy bite instead of turning into watery mush like spinach tends to. I’ll have to try it again when the next batch is ready, but with less garlic so I can see what the greens themselves actually taste like!

Sonya from learn_green_skills on Instagram suggested a while back that the pods are edible too, and I’d love to give those a try at some point.

What new recipes are you trying with garden produce this year? Share them in the comments so I can give them a try!
