I was so excited to get these in the mail yesterday!
One of my favourite parts of gardening is getting to plant and eat foods that aren’t normally available in the grocery store.
These are sunchokes, also known as Jerusalem artichokes (despite having no relationship to either artichokes nor Jerusalem).
A relative of sunflowers, sunchokes are native to North America. They grow quite enthusiastically from the tubers, which you can also eat. The tubers spoil quickly once they’re out of the soil though, so these went into the ground first thing this morning.
What are you growing this year that you can’t easily find in a grocery store?
