About Amy and her Blog
Amy Urquhart is a professional editor and teacher. She has been blogging and writing online on various websites since 2001, and is extremely enthusiastic about the online space and social media. She is especially well known as a kind and respectful participant in the Canadian blogosphere and is a savvy user of social media applications, including Twitter, Facebook and others.
From the “About Playing in the Dirt” page at Playing in the Dirt:
Amy started “Playing in the Dirt” as a way to document her progress as a beginner gardener in 2004. At the time she was living in Toronto and had only a 4 x 10 part-sun back yard plot and deck to garden in. Today she is gardening in a large, suburban back yard in Bowmanville, Ontario. She is continuously learning more about the benefits of organic gardening and enjoys meeting other gardeners in the neighbourhood and expanding the size of her vegetable garden. She is especially interested in heirloom vegetable varieties.
Amy loves gardening because it provides her with a never-ending opportunity to learn new things, and to share that new-found knowledge and plant passion with others. It’s also a great way to connect with other people who are crazy about all things green. In that same vein, she wants to provide a local resource on the web for gardeners in Durham Region (specifically Newcastle, Bowmanville, Courtice, Oshawa, Whitby, Brooklin, Port Perry, Ajax, Pickering).

Press and Testimonials
One of Amy’s posts from a former site, Assertagirl has been published in Kirtsy Takes a Bow, A Celebration of Women’s Favorites Online (Bright Sky Press, 2009).
“It was my distinct pleasure to work with Amy at “Behind the Paw,’ a Procter & Gamble sponsored summit in 2011. Amy was among the writers Proctor & Gamble identified as an “influential blogger” whose opinion was sought for how best to reach a target audience and to evaluate current delivery methods of the corporate message. I found Amy to be refreshing not only for her measured and reasoned responses, but for her knack for thinking outside the box. It was Amy who typically inspired the rest of us to be on our best game, and I am among her colleagues who found her to be an asset in an environment in which we were called upon to be creative, insightful and perceptive. I’m delighted to be able to share my experience of working with her.”
