Green Thumb Sunday: Double Daffodil

by Amy on April 25, 2010

If there’s one thing that this spring has inspired in me, it’s that we need more spring flowering bulbs and perennials in the garden. All around us there are tulips, hyacinth, phlox and daffodils in bloom. We have some dwarf tulips and grape hyacinths in our back yard, but nothing flowering out front.

These double daffodils are growing a couple of streets over at a friend’s home. They seem like more than double blooms, actually. They’re very frilly. Aren’t they pretty?

Beautiful! But you'd better hope it doesn't rain… my double daffs are just ridiculously floppy if they get wet, and they will never recover.

While you're thinking about bulbs, maybe also consider putting Arabis (rock/wall cress) around them. It does nothing all year except provide a bit of evergreen groundcover, but it was first to bloom in my garden this spring, with an astonishing carpet of lush tiny white flowers. I got an end-of-season flat on clearance last year… keep your eyes peeled for this underappreciated perennial!
Cool meme, but I don't think I can take on another right now…

Good call with the arabis, it's a pretty perennial. I'll have to keep an eye out for some.

They ARE pretty! I'm glad you participate in this meme, also. :-)

It's one of my favourites! Like taking a tour.
