What’s blooming this week?

by Amy on August 14, 2009

As I wandered around the garden this week taking photos of the blooming plants, I realized that summer is really beginning to wind down in the garden and that autumn is just around the corner. I sure hope the summer weather that has finally arrived in Ontario lately will last until late September or early October!

Rudbeckia, or Black-eyed Susans, as they are commonly called, are the star attraction in the perennial garden right now. It’s easy to see why. These are wonderful for cutting and bringing into the house.

The ants seem to love climbing all over this flowering echinacea, which I’ve also recently transplanted into the vegetable garden.

Tall, lacy motherwort in the back of the perennial border.

Phlox, ‘David’ in bloom at the side of the house. Have I ever mentioned that the garden at the side of the house consists of only white-blooming plants?

I think we still have several weeks of hot summer weather here…the high is expected to feel like 100F on Monday with the humidity!
