Gardening on the cheap: Repurposed potting bench.

by Amy on June 16, 2009

Makeshift potting bench.

I use this old, wooden ironing board as a potting bench on our back deck. It’s the perfect height for a workspace and looks cool, too! Later on in the season when I’m not doing much potting on a regular basis, I put some of my houseplants outside to enjoy the heat and humidity until fall comes.

You can find something like this at a yard sale or flea market for a good price, much cheaper than buying a brand new plant stand or potting bench from a retail outlet, and re-purposing old items keeps them out of the garbage.

Another cool idea. Well thought! The other day, I saw a short, single wooden ladder used as trellis. Also love the look of the double ones for staging pots.

Good idea. I use my daughter’s little table, from when she was about 4, as a plant stand. I get to keep it for sentimental reasons, and still put it to good use.

VERY cool idea. You know, I have a microwave cart that has a broken wheel/leg and hadn’t gotten rid of it yet. I could take off all the wheels and use it for a potting table!
Thanks for the inspiration:)

it was really nice, but I think adding more details on your potting bench will make it look more stylish.
