Tilling time.
Tuesday evening Graham and I rented a tiller from Home Depot. They have a deal on right now that gets you half price on evening rentals of tillers and aerators until next week, so this four-hour rental only cost $17.50!
The vegetable patch had been looking woefully neglected so I was thrilled when Graham offered to do this for me. I pulled out large weeds and last year’s un-harvested onions and garlic while he happily tilled away (any excuse to use a power tool makes this guy happy).
The result is that we have more organic matter dug into the soil, since last year’s straw mulch was well tilled in. I shoud be able to get my vegetable plants in the ground this weekend, if it ever stops raining.

If you still want them, I can send you a list of left-over plants from the swap this weekend. I should have time to put it together this afternoon.

Ciao Amy-
Congrats on your pregnancy! We missed you at the swap, but we’re all so happy for you. I should also have extra seedlings if you’d like some, especially peppers. Let me know.
Happy planting. It’s actually good to plant in the rain, especially for seedlings. Sunday’s predicted to be very sunny — though I hope not too hot, as I have a day outdoors planned — but that’s better if the ground is well watered. It’s too many days of one or t’other that’s the problem.

I have been dealing with the same issue. I love the rain and I am so thankful for it… but when will it stop? I am a little worried that some of my plants might have washed away… me being a newbie gardener and all. We will see!
