This past Christmas Graham and I got a beautiful Blue Spruce tree for our living room. One of the things I love about having a fresh tree is that there are usually spare boughs left after cutting the tree to fit inside the house. This was true this year, and I made some pretty and simple swags out of them to decorate our porch over the winter.

To make these, I simply dangled the boughs over the plant hooks that we already have hanging on the porch walls. I had this gold ribbon tucked away in our Christmas decorations. I’m not exactly sure what it is made of, but it is not fabric; it’s a more weather-resistant material and the edges curl up in a charming way. These look especially pretty when it snows and the boughs get dusting with fresh, clean snow.

I wanted to make the little bird house on the front porch look a little more seasonal, too, so I tucked some little spruce twigs inside the opening. This galvanized steel watering can looks cute with some boughs inside it, too. Some red dogwood stems would look even nicer.

Well that’s a nice idea.
Very creative, and kudos to you for extending the season! I especially like the boughs that are tucked into your watering can.
Lovely idea to re-use the Christmas tree throughout the winter.
