May 10 the Oshawa Garden Club will be having their annual plant sale at the Fernhill Park Clubhouse from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Brooklin Plant Auction
May 10 the Brooklin Horticultural Society will hold their annual plant auction beginning at 10:00 a.m. Auctioneer Ken Brown insists, “It is a contact sport!” The auction will be held at Brooklin United Church Hall, Cassels Road East.
Spring Break Farm Heirloom Tomato Sale
Saturday, May 17 to Saturday, May 31, 2008 (excluding Sundays), daily from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (or while quantities last), Spring Break Farm will be selling approximately 60 varieties of rare, unique and hard-to-find heirloom tomato plants. Photos and descriptions are available on their website. Their plants are sold for the bargain price of $1.50 each, with a discount on large quantities.
Interested gardeners can e-mail Spring Break Farm from the form on their website to place a reserve order for pick up during the sale dates. They will also have a limited supply of assorted vegetable and herb seedling plants. Most of their seeds have been obtained from either an “organic” or “certified organic” source.
While Spring Break Farm is a little out of the ways from Durham or Clarington (in Cameron, Ontario), this might be a nice destination for an afternoon drive.
Garden Open House
June 29, July 12 and July 13, Sheila and Peter of Bowmanville are opening their garden gate to interested visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Their address is 2152 Maple Grove Road, and Sheila welcomes e-mail inquiries.
The garden features woodland plants, alpine plants, a herbacious border, a 56-foot arbour (!), pond, vegetable garden and cutting garden.
