Taking control of the houseplants.

by Amy on November 18, 2007

I was beginning to feel this weekend like my houseplants were taking over! They were almost all crowded into the dining room window, which is the best spot in the house, light-wise, but the dining room felt…small. I gave all the plants a good watering and moved a few around to other parts of the house. I may have to rotate them around over the winter to make sure they all get enough light, but at least I feel like I can breathe again!

I’ve decided to give up a couple, though, and I’ve asked some friends if they want my 5-colour Chinese hot pepper, avocado or bay laurel. I just don’t have the heart this year to overwinter every single one of the pots I brought in this fall. If any of you are local and you’d like any of these, just send me an e-mail and we can arrange something!

Tough decision to make. I’m glad we don’t need to overwinter our plants here in Aust. I’m not sure I could stomach giving away plants that I love.

I did a recent post about bringing our plants inside, and I know just what you mean. There are just too many, but I can’t bear to part with them!

I never have enough space to overwinter everything. I just have to hope that they are more protected in an un-heated greenhouse.
