Yesterday evening some of us gardeners from the community garden met up at the garden to chat, share some insight from the season’s growth and enroll for next season. We had a lovely time, and I left wishing that we had done something similar at the beginning of the season. It would have been nice to be more familiar with the other gardeners earlier on. It’s good to know we won’t be strangers come spring.

Gardening in the “golden hour”.
There are still a few weeks of active gardening to be done, so I’m sure it isn’t the last time us gardeners will be together. We took turns sharing our successes and challenges, and shared a few stories. While we chatted, a sleek black cat hunted through the garden and caught a mouse. We clapped as he high-tailed it out of the garden, likely back home, where he would present his owner with his kill.
Some ideas were brought forth for ways to thrust our roots even deeper into the community. We’re considering getting involved with the local Santa Claus parade this winter, and Peggy is also going to look into the possibility of having a weather station installed at the garden. Some of us would take turns reading the weather and reporting it to Environment Canada. She’s also going to apply for a grant so we can purchase some mushroom compost for the spring.
So it is official, I have signed up to garden in the same plot for another season.

It’s so cool you have the opportunity to do the community gardening thing. We live out in the country so our closest neighbor is about a mile away. So getting together with people that have similar interests is moderately difficult to do.
Have fun, and for now, I garden solely solo.
