Community plot non-update.

by Amy on June 20, 2007

I had hoped to have a good update for you about my community garden plot, but all I can say is that I’ve now pulled about two thirds of the weeds there. We had a good thunder and rainstorm yesterday afternoon, but it blew over quickly. After dinner I decided it would be a good time to go pull weeds. I was totally grouchy and irritable and I figured that would be a good way to vent some of my frustrations. Another reason gardening is good for you! Ten minutes into the pulling and tugging and I felt a million times better.

There was another gardener in his plot when I arrived and when I said hello, I introduced myself as “The Weed Lady”. “Oh, the corner plot?” he said. “You’re famous.” Not exactly the reputation I was hoping to gain for myself when I rented the plot. I told him that I vowed to become the Most Improved Plot this summer.

Among the weeds I discovered some dill growing, which, melding in with the smell of the earth after the rain, smelled INCREDIBLE.

I know that once I get this plot all planted up and in decent shape I will love going over to investigate and maintain it. It’s just taking awhile to get to that point.

Every time I think about someone being called the “weed lady,” I have a little laugh that this is descriptor which will probably follow for some time. I can’t explain why I think it’s so funny, perhaps its because of all of the names I think people might apply to me because of my garden…
