YGG Canadian Seed Exchange Round Robin

Last year’s haul (click to see enlarged).

The annual You Grow Girl Canadian round robin seed exchange will be underway tomorrow. Thanks, Meighan for organizing this year. I did the honours last year, and I found the list was a bit long, and it took until mid-April before the package made its way back to me. It’s a lot of fun to get an envelope full of all kinds of seeds, though. And it’s a great way to pass on all those extras you’ve been accumulating since last season.

Here’s how it works: the organizer puts together a package of seeds from her collection that she’s willing to part with. After the list of names of participants is gathered, the organizer communicates this list to everyone. The participants then contact the person behind them on the list, and provides her mailing address. When the package gets to the next person on the list, she’ll take whatever seeds from the package she wants to keep, and replace them with those from her own collection. She’ll mail the package to the next person on the list, who, ideally, has already provided her address. (If not, the package sits and everyone gets impatient!) The last person on the list will send the package back to the organizer, who then receives a completely different package than she originally sent out.
