Evening Putter

by Amy on July 19, 2006

There’s almost nothing more relaxing than a summer evening after dinner, puttering around the garden with your sweetie. I love evenings like last night. After dinner we both find something to do in the yard. I just start pulling weeds in one corner of the garden and end up somewhere totally different an hour later.

We’ve put a beat-up stereo on the deck inside my zip-up greenhouse so we have evening jazz in the yard now. It seems to keep the noisy neighbour kids out of their yards, too, which is a big bonus.

Harvested:

Another 6 English cucumbers
3 more zucchini
A handful of raspberries (I’m just happy to get to them before the birds do.)

Hacked back:

The rest of the shasta daisies
Some sad-looking bee balm

To do:

Cut back agastache
Shape and edge the bed running down the length of the garage
Add more mulch to veggie bed and to tomato patch

Number of rabbits trapped and moved out to the country: 1!

How exciting to be harvesting cucumbers! I planted my garden late, so I just have to be excited by watching the vine grow more and more at this point. I can’t wait to eat one though.
