Peanuts

by Amy on July 16, 2006

A couple of weeks ago Graham put out a pile of peanuts for the local squirrel(s). Today I pulled out over a dozen little peanut plants from all over the yard, in nearly every potted plant. It’s funny to think of the local squirrel stashing the nuts all over the place. Now when he comes to look for them they’ll either be plants, or thay’ll be gone. I think because the peanuts were purchased at the TSC store they were probably untreated, so they sprouted.

Here’s a photo of one of many peanut plants in our yard.

Peanut Plants

I hope the squirrel won’t make too much of a mess when he comes back looking for his treasure.

News on the rabbit front:

We borrowed a “Havaheart” trap and put some carrots in it. Operation bunny-trap is in full effect.

Harvested:

2 large English cucumbers
1 zucchini (these plants grew the most while we were away on our honeymoon)

Hacked back:

Shasta daisies that were damaged in a downpour
Lemon balm that was looking really scraggly
Penstemon that had done its thing and was flopping over the step onto the deck
Foxgloves that had done their thing
Tomato suckers
