More Neglect

by Amy on December 10, 2005

I’ve been neglecting my houseplants. And my banana has paid the ultimate price.

The truth is, I’ve become lazy when it comes to my indoor garden. No more! Things can go a bit in the winter but I really should remember to water them more often than I do. So this morning I watered every plant, pulled off any crispy leaves, gave a few a little turn, fertilized the violets and moved a few around to accomodate the Christmas tree and decorations.

The good news is that the kalanchoe, which got a touch a frost before coming in for the winter, is bouncing back with new growth. The pineapple and my mother-in-law’s tongue were affected by the cold, too, but I’ve cut them back and hopefully once the warm weather returns, they’ll do better. Hope I can bring out another flush of blooms from the violets soon.

Mom is going to bring some of her violets over to sit in our windows. Her new apartment doesn’t have enough light for them. They need some time in the plant hospice.
