Coming Together

by Amy on June 1, 2005

Our yard is really coming together now.

Graham and I went over to the field behind his mum’s house on the weekend and dug up two raspberry bushes, one Red Stem Dogwood and a Manitoba Maple. The maple has been described by a fellow YGG-er as “a fast growing weed tree”. We’ll see, though. There’s so much exposure in our yard that it might be worth it to have some more shade. The tree was free, after all.

We decided we’d like to have a row of lilacs at one part of the back fence and the raspberries will spread in the other back area over time.

The honeysuckle I planted has grown quickly. It’s up to the next rung of the ladder I put it beneath. The ones I saw at the garden centre were blooming there today. (I went to pick up some more potting soil.) They’re really lovely.

Sunflowers are sprouting everywhere I planted them. I can’t wait until they’re peeking up around the fence in different spots.

I potted up my geraniums (grown from seed!) along with some lobelia and snapdragons awhile ago, then watered everything. I can’t wait for things to start filling in. The weather has just been gorgeous this week. Mid-20s all week.

I’m meeting up with some of the contributors to the You Grow Girl forums on Sunday at the Harbourfront Herbfest for shopping and drinks after. Some of us are swapping some plants, too. Should be a fun time.

…since you mentioned the dogwood and seeing them in the Music Garden, I swear I’m seeing these dogwoods everywhere, including on the island last weekend. Made me think of you and your garden every time!–>
