Today’s Progress

by Amy on April 29, 2005

I finish work at 1 o’clock on Fridays, and the day was lovely and sunny. Since it’s supposed to rain all weekend, I thought I’d play outside as much as I could today. I planted some of the perennials I’d brought from Toronto in the front, mostly shade plants (hostas, lamium, hens & chicks, spurge, heuchera).

In the back yard, I planted the chives and garlic chives in one of the new raised beds, and shoved the long bamboo into another (to be tied into a teepee for beans later).

I moved some of the remaining triple mix to the spot in the back yard around the red maple that I want to make into a sunny perennial bed in honour of Phoebe. Directly over her grave I’m going to plant the catnip I have started from seed indoors. For now, I planted a few of the perennials I brought from the old house. I put in both echinaceas, phlox, the poppy, a shasta daisy and lavender. I’m hoping to put some forget-me-nots there, too.

The next sunny day we have, I’ll move more triple mix in a similar way around the other little maple on the other side of the yard.

The spinach and lettuce sprouts have begun to pop up at the side of the house.
