Good “Clean” Fun

by Amy on August 14, 2004

I’ve been converted…if power-washing was a religion of some kind I’d join up. It’s the most fun you can have in your yard doing a “chore.”

My Dad loaned me his power washer to do our deck, and once I got going, I wanted to wash everything! It is amazing how dirty something can be without your even knowing it. It was disgusting out there! As I was washing the deck, it smelled like we were suddenly out on the lake or something…all the algae build-up on the wood. It’s a good thing I didn’t know about it all the while we’ve lived here or I wouldn’t have slept a wink!

I did some of the patio stones as well, but not all of them.

You get pretty dirty in the process, and safety goggles might not be a bad idea if you have a pair. The debris can go flying. I was wearing open sandals (the kind with the velcro straps that can get wet) and I hit the top of my left foot briefly and was very surprised at how much it stung! Needless to say, I was more careful after that.

Because you are always dealing with the resistance of the nozzle, my forearms are a little sore now, but just as if I’ve been to the gym or something. Totally worth it!
