Getting Caught Up

by Amy on June 27, 2004

Well I hate to admit it, but it seems I had a bit of an adjustment phase to go through with respect to returning to a M-F, 9-5 job again. In many ways it has been like riding a bike, I just got back on and kept riding. But there have been some things I needed to get used to again.

I was up early this morning and with a big cup of coffee in hand, I headed out to the back garden and really got in there for the first time in a few weeks. Lots is going on, and when you aren’t really down at eye-level with the plants, there’s a lot you can miss! I pulled lots of weeds and turned over the soil in the veggie patch. There is a beautiful orange bloom on the cucumber, and there are teeny tiny currant tomatoes, too! The scarlet runner bean has reached the top of the teepee. It will be interesting to see what it does at that height…maybe wrap around itself? The alpine strawberry is blooming, and I transplanted it into a bigger container so it would have a better chance to spread. There is so much lettuce I’ll be eating salad all summer! It’s really doing well. I staked my garlic because it was getting all flopsy-bunnied. All of the other tomato plants are starting to take off, including the Pink Ponderosa I grew from seed. I also have a Bonny Best, Big Beef, German Striped, Red Currant and Orange Strawberry. Most have blooms or will any day now. I threw some purple basil seeds in a pot as well as some nasurtiums. I really want to make purple pesto!

I swept up the deck and hosed down the table and did some other housecleaning out there and things are now restored to their rightful order. I am very happy and satisfied. Now on to the front yard!
