Nasty Neighbours

by Amy on June 6, 2004

I just came home from a lovely, relaxing afternoon with Gayla at the Harbourfront Herb Fair, ready to plant up my new babies, and the neighbours two doors down start blaring horrible hip-hop from their SUV in the backyard. I thought it might only be for a few minutes because they let their 12 or 13 year old son sit in the front seat and blast music and honk the horn (honestly, who does this?), but it went on and even got louder. So I went down the alley and knocked on the gate but of course no one could hear me. I went to the front door and rang the bell, but no one came to the door. Finally I went into the back yard and finally got the attention of someone (she couldn’t hear me of course) and then she gave me total attitude when I asked if they would please turn it down a little. I didn’t even ask her to turn it off, just down. Then the other older son came out of the house and asked, “Do you have a problem with the music?” Yes, I said I was having dinner outside two doors down and it was a little loud. He said, “Sorry about that,” and I came home. They didn’t turn it down at all. Jerks! I was so mad, I was enjoying myself in the yard with the plants but that totally detracted from it, so I came in, blasted George Michael and did the dishes. Why can’t people just be decent? You know this 12 year old kid is going to turn into one of those jerky neighbours someday, too. The only consolation I have is that their house is for sale. I hope they move soon. They did this last summer, too.
