The peony I got from Mom in Cobourg is beginning to poke through the dirt.
Squirrels got to the pansies down by the sidewalk. I think I will be sprinkling some cayenne pepper out there in the morning. At least they haven’t found the beans. I was directed to a funny site I’ve linked to on the side, called “All Squirrels Must Die!” I’m not sure how serious these people are, but I just want to say I have no intention to hurt any creatures, great or small. I just want them to leave my garden alone!
I e-mailed the city to find out where I can haul that wood from the side of the garage to. Some kind folks at the You Grow Girl forums have suggested a water garden of some sort. I’m considering it. It would be nice to hear the sound of water in the yard. The only thing is, I don’t want to invest much more money on the yard since we rent here.
I’ve got sweet pea seeds soaking and intend to plant them tomorrow or Saturday. I am going to hammer some nails into the fence and use jute to make a sort of trellis for them to scramble up. Heather did that last summer for her morning glories and I thought it looked kind of cool.
I am seriously considering finding a way to make a living out of horticulture. I would love to find summer work at a garden centre or nursery. I’m looking at courses at Humber College. They have a Retail Garden Centre Technician Certificate program that allows the student to challenge the Canadian Certified Horticultural Technician exam. I didn’t realize that Horticulturalist Technicians are recognized tradesmen and women. Cool!
